Every patient was given back school instructions by the physiotherapist at the 2-week follow-up assessment. In cases of persisting sciatic pain, the patients received pain medication and traditional physiotherapy. In the case of severe sciatic pain from disc herniation and pronounced disability, the patient was referred to a neurosurgeon for discectomy evaluation. Each additional treatment and its cost to the patient were documented in the follow-up questionnaires.
